About Fred Mays

Fred Mays Fred Mays is a retired television journalist, winner of the Peabody Award. He works as a freelance writer/photographer. More samples of his panoramic photography work can be seen at www.fredmays.com. He lives in St. Cloud, Florida with his dog, Kinsey, and girlfriend Kathy Jones. My camera is a Nikon D850, with 3 lenses. I have used Nikon equipment since 2011, and along the way have used the D5100, D7200, D750 and now the D850. I know everybody says go mirrorless, but I'm more than happy with my D850 and don't feel compelled to change at this time. My main photographic focus is landscape. I really enjoy getting outside and finding the beauty in nature. I have played around a bit with digital art, using Topaz Studio 2. Mainly I process my photos with Aurora HDR, Luminar Neo, Adobe Bridge and Photoshop Elements. For black and white images I used Silver Effects in the Nik collection. I previously used Lightroom and Photoshop, but the learning curve was steep, the monthly subscription was a pain, and I was only using basic functions that I can accomplish with the other software. My location in Central Florida allows me to travel all over the central part of the state in just a few hours. I shoot at both coasts...Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. A couple times a year there are road trips to North Florida (usually in the summer) and to South Florida and the Keys (usually in the winter). Despite all the growth, I still find amazingly beautiful locations in Florida for nature photography. You can contact me at fredmays44@gmail.com, or at 972-838-5163.
